When you first open the browser you are able to play a short tutorial showing you the different main weapons available, as well as how to drive your new tank. Once you complete the tutorial register up and you are good to go in this free game.
From there you can choose to enter straight into a battle, or browse the garage and store for some upgrades or new kit. In each battle you will be able to earn crystals and experience for each kill you score.
This experience counts towards your rank, the higher the rank the more games you can join, but also the higher levels and better equipment you can buy. At the end of each game you also get an award of crystals for completing the battle.
During battles there will be crates that drop down, these can carry crystals, extra damage, armor or even a heal for your tank. Picking these up will give you an advantage so its worth trying to get them. There are lots of different maps, and the number of enemies is always changing.
In the garage you are able to manage your current items, and purchase new ones. You can buy new hulls, weapons or boosts for your tank. Once you own an item you can also upgrade them, to do more damage, or have more chance of surviving. There are also lots of cool paint schemes that you can buy.
Crystals are found in all of the battles that you play, either as your reward for completing it or in crates. You can also purchase crystals for real money through the game. These crystals can also be spent on complete kits, or experience boosters to help you level up.
There are several different styles of battle ranging from deathmatches to capture the flag. In each match the game starts as soon as a tank appears, the sides may not be balanced at the start, so be careful when you enter a match.
Though this is a browser game the graphics are really good, with an award winning design and huge range of options Tanki Online is a really good game. The controls take a little getting used to, but once you do you can begin to dominate the field.
Choosing your weapons for the map is fun and having a range of weapons can be an advantage, the ability to upgrade items is nice, though it can get a little expensive for the really high levels of gear.
